We Deserve Some Respect!!! 5 Times Black People Have Proven "Their Money is King"

Even the White Kid Looks confused with the expression of  "Man!! this is a bad idea"  on his face*SMH* Yep!!! Just like Helena said, the company intended this to give them free publicity and boy did they get it. The problem is, this is not publicity. This is an insult. An unfortunate but deliberate insult. It is even more painful because it is coming from a company, at this time, that should know better. Do they even have anyone of black descent on their team? I bet they don't....albeit deliberately. It is even more worrisome because a white kid was given the sweatshirt with flattering words, solidifying the racist undertone people have gotten from it. These companies keep on ignoring blacks and are most times insensitive when they formulate and develop brands. In the world of business, money is king. Especially the type that exchanges hands to get your product. According to a study conducted by University of Georgia’s Selig Center for Economic Growth, bl

Toke Makinwa vs Lagos Restaurant! Your Customer is King; Negative Effects of Bad Customer Service

The Internet was on fire a few days back when OAP and vlogger, Toke Makinwa revealed she was treated shabbily at a restaurant in Lagos. The summary of what happened according to her is that she was treated shabbily because a fellow diner, obviously with more clout than her, asked that she should not be attended to. Her story reminded me of what happened when I visited a saloon some years back. They were attending to me. We agreed on a style and they had started doing the cornrows for the weave and in enters a lady. I noticed

Liberian born Skincare Mogul, Richelieu Dennis, Acquires Essence Magazine

Popular female targeted fashion and pop culture magazine, Essence, has been acquired by Liberian business man, Richelieu Dennis, from Time Inc. In my opinion, the deal is one that encouraged the  elevation of black women to own a seat at the table. Richelieu is the founder of beauty and skin-care firm Sundial Brands. Sundai is the  parent company of popular brand, "Shea Moisture". He however sold control of the skincare firm to  Unilever in November but remains its CEO. Time Inc. initially acquired 49 percent stake in the 48 year old magazine in 2000 from founder Ed Lewis and purchased the remaining 51 percent in 2005. While ESSENCE President Michelle Ebanks will continue at the helm of the company, the all Black female executive team of the magazine will have an equity stake in the business. According to Richelieu Dennis, the acquisition of the magazine serves as an avenue for "women leading the business to also be partners in the business". “The s
